Benefits of Pallet Recycling
One of the great things about wooden pallets is the lack of waste – even at the end of a pallet’s life it has plenty of further uses.
Pallets are highly sustainable items – made from wood usually cut from sustainably managed forests, easily reused, easily repaired…there is virtually no waste.
Which is why if your business is sitting on a pile of old pallets, it is a good idea to sell them – not only do you get some cash for the waste cluttering up your docking bay and warehouse, but you are saving a few other problems, too.
Too many old pallets in a warehouse present a serious fire risk, as they are easily combustible and burn quickly, presenting a danger to lives and property.
They can also pose a health and safety hazard to employees, especially if piled up in a poor manner when they can easily fall. Useful though they are, pallets present an easy trip hazard when empty and workers should not have to be trying to walk across them to get their tasks done- a quick way to twist an ankle or get cut by splintered wood.
Abandoned pallets are also an ideal nesting place for unwanted rodents with all their hidden spaces and hideaways.
So calling a pallet recycling company solves all those problems – and is good for the company cash flow.
A professional pallet recycler will assess the pallets you want rid of and ensure the right reuse takes place.
If a pallet is in good condition, everyone wins – cash for your firm and a pallet reentering the international supply and logistics chain for direct reuse.
It may need some modest repairs, which are easily undertaken by a good pallet recycler who can strengthen weak areas and replace broken timbers.
A pallet that is a bit far gone for direct reuse can be quicky stripped down into its constituent pieces of wood, and the better condition ones used for repairing other pallets as they come in.
Finally, any pallet or pieces of pallets that are simply not up to the job of becoming a working pallet again are chipped up and processed into garden mulch, ensuring nothing is wasted.
The whole process is about as environmentally sustainable as possible, with the end of a pallet’s life literally returning it to the soils and earth.
And – of course – many pallets are eagerly seized upon by crafters and DIYers and not just recycled but upcycled into a wide and wonderful range of items, from planters to coffee tables, wine racks to deck chairs, only limited by imagination.
