Creative Virtual Date Ideas

Life in 2020 hasn’t exactly been easy. We are all struggling to find some sense of normalcy especially as the holidays approach. Zoom and other video call platforms have become more popular than ever before. For many kids going to school everyday means logging on to a laptop and joining a video call with the teacher and other students. For many adults going to work means the same, virtually interacting with coworkers and customers instead of in person. What about a date? Did you finally match with someone with potential? Did you find yourself in a long distance relationship all of the sudden? You may not feel comfortable meeting with someone in a typical coffee shop or restaurant, especially a stranger during these times, but how about a virtual date? Sounds a little like a reality show, but it could be a great way to get to know someone new or stay connected with loved ones and have fun!

Have a Dinner Date

A timeless classic that you can still enjoy while apart. Pick a recipe that you would like to try and prop up your phone or computer and get to work. If there is a competitive streak present, it can be turned into a challenge. Whose pork chop would make it past Gordon Ramsey? When the cooking is done sit down in front of the computer and eat together, almost like a normal date.

Art Night

Who can draw a better dinosaur? Something most couples may never know, but now you can spend the evening with a drawing contest. Pick random ideas out of a hat and draw them, the judges may not be very fair, but it's all for fun. You could also have your own painting with a twist at home, pour a glass of wine and go for it!

Go Old School

You can go as simple as 20 questions: a fun and simple way to get to know each other. When’s the last time you played battleship and connect 4? These can be played easily virtually, they just tell you where they want to go. Pictionary and charades are another great option, act out or draw out movie titles and more and guess them.

Pour A Candle

Purchase a DIY kit from a local candle store. Not only does this give you a unique way to have fun that you may never have done before, but it also leaves you with a token to remember the date. It can also be a gift you give each other, or make a few and whittle down the ever growing Christmas list. This can be a great conversation starter while you reminisce about all your favorite holiday scents and the memories that go along with them.

Not being able to physically be with your partner can be stressful. Feeling close to each other or getting to know someone intimately seems impossible when you can’t be with them, but we can make the best of the pandemic and it can still be sweet. Just looking for some fun things to do with a friend? These too can just be a way to stay connected with friends and family during all these unchartered territories.
